Dear Owners,
April has been a calmer month and much has been
achieved. The temporary plant pots that
were in place outside Block 1 have been replaced with long, low planters plus 3
large palms in big pots. We went for
long and low planters because the big pots that were there temporarily were
being blown over in high winds. As I
said last month the overwhelming response has been very positive. I know that the owners of the five cars that
used to regularly park outside Block 1 now have to park either underground or
elsewhere but the inconvenience of a few has benefitted everybody as the access
area to the main gate is now completely visible.
The heating to Pool 2 has been reinstated and the
temperature is being maintained at around 24 degrees. The pool company are doing a fantastic
job. They replaced the tiles around the
border of the children’s pool number 2 free of charge and will replace the
missing floor tiles in Pool 1 as soon as the weather gets warmer. This is because they will do the work without
having to empty the pool so it involves a lot of time in the water. Broken lights in Pool 2 have now been
replaced. Work to adjust the pool gates
in all areas has been completed. The
areas beneath the blocks where the sunbeds are stored will be thoroughly
cleaned and the sunbeds will also be cleaned and the fabric tightened in
preparation for the summer. Any broken
or damaged sunbeds will be disposed of.
The bins around the pool and garden areas are now being emptied by the night
shift concierge. This was previously
done by the gardeners.
Carlos has been working alone in the gardens since 1st
April and is doing a splendid job. He
now only has to concentrate on gardening rather than the other duties he had
previously. The gardening company did
provide additional help to clean the ‘barranco’ which is the area which runs
around Phase 1 between the fences around the gardens and the outer edges of
Phase 1. This job is carried out each
year and the cost of the additional help is costed into the gardening company’s
annual charges. In the event of bad
weather Carlos now has a supply of paint so he can use the time to spruce up
the garage paintwork.
A new water pump was installed on 25th April with
little disruption to the supply. We
still have the pump that was there so we now have a new pump plus a backup
pump.
The benches around Phase 1 have all been painted and
repaired together with the pergola in the central square.
Gerardo picked up on the fact that our concierges, who are
employed directly by the community, have never been covered by any kind of
indemnity policy. This is standard
practice for companies and their employees and it means that, in the event of an
accident at work, the community would be covered. Without it the community could face a hefty
fine. This is now being put in place
for Tomi, Juan and Cristobal.
We received the final quote for the work to the internal
gardens which was about half the cost of the original quote we received. That work will commence this week.
It is always useful to get feedback from owners about things
that need fixing or adjusting so the problems can be remedied quickly. Our
cleaner has also made some useful suggestions regarding the pool toilets. These are that we fit automatic door closers
to each of the toilet doors, put the lights onto timers so lights are not left on
for hours at a time and that in the winter months only the toilet at Pool 2 is unlocked
as the other areas are only used by the concierge or gardener. This means that in the winter only one toilet
needs to be cleaned. These are all
useful suggestions which will be implemented.
A date has been set for the 2017 AGM now so that owners who
wish to attend and who don’t live in Spain are able to plan their flights. The meeting will be held on Friday 17th
November at the Hotel Tamisa Golf. I
decided to return to the Tamisa as I think it is a nicer venue than the Town
Hall in La Cala and the acoustics are definitely better for those that have
difficulty hearing. The Tamisa are only
charging us 50 euros plus IVA which I think is a good deal.
Only committee members and the administrator attended the
last committee meeting. Gerardo and I
meet every Thursday at 1pm in the square and welcome any owners who wish to
discuss anything with us.
Finally I would like to address some rumours which have come
to my attention. The Vice President
(Roger Emerson) has NOT resigned. We
have NO plans to permanently close one of the swimming pools and the disabled
bay outside Block 9 is NOT my husband’s personal parking space. The disabled bay is for anyone with a blue
badge to use. All I ask is that
non-disabled drivers respect the fact that it is a bay designated for disabled
drivers and don’t park there even for a few minutes. Unfortunately my husband
is registered disabled and therefore entitled to use that bay! Rumours can never be stopped but it really is
much simpler, if you want to know anything, to just ask me! You can email me at
